MaxLinear is seeking a Principal Communications Systems Engineer to join our growing team. You will lead and contribute to the development of world-class, broadband mixed-signal semiconductor communications products. Our products combine best-in-class performance with ultra low power and functionality, which helps to shape the roadmap for our customers and the ecosystem. In this role, you will focus on the following:


  • Provide cross-functional leadership and oversight on product architecture, system partitioning, block-level interface and performance specifications, chip validation, and productization
  • Design, verify, and test DSP algorithms, blocks, and subsystems for high-performance communications systems, including cable Remote-PHY, high-speed optical transceivers, and wireless modems
  • Develop end-to-end simulation models of DSP hardware and firmware in a SystemC environment to verify system performance, enable ASIC/RTL co-verification, and validate firmware algorithms
  • Engage with RFIC and Systems teams to capture analog front-end and channel features and impairments in SystemC end-to-end simulation models used to validate and optimize DSP performance
  • Engage with ASIC Design and Verification teams to validate pre-silicon design through co-simulation, emulation, and prototype testing
  • Engage with Software engineering team to develop real-time firmware algorithms to control DSP hardware and perform adaptive runtime calibration of analog and DSP blocks
  • Lead chip bring-up activity, interoperability testing, and cross-functional debug of DSP hardware / software to achieve system performance


  • Strong understanding of DSP and communications fundamentals including OFDM, error correction, digital predistortion, synchronization, filtering, and modulation / demodulation
  • Expertise in developing, simulating, and testing low-power / complexity-aware Tx and Rx DSP algorithms
  • Expertise validating DSP algorithms and subsystems in the lab as part of chip bring-up and productization activities, and hands-on experience using test and measurement equipment (signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes)
  • Strong understand of SoC microarchitecture including interaction between DSP hardware with ADCs and DACs, on-chip memory, and embedded CPUs
  • Ability to write code and perform analyses using SystemC, C/C++, Python, and Matlab
  • Experience with Layer 1 PHY and Layer 2 MAC algorithms and specifications
  • Proven ability to take initiative in a dynamic environment, lead systematic debug efforts, and work closely with cross-functional engineering teams consisting of Communications Systems, Software, RFIC, ASIC, and Systems / Platform engineers
  • Disciplined revision control practices, using git, SVN, Methodics, Perforce
  • Experience with DOCSIS and Ethernet standards is a plus, as well as high-level synthesis (HLS) and packet-capture analysis
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related + 8 years of experience, or MS + 6 years of experience, or Ph.D. + 3 years of experience
