Responsibilities

MaxLinear is seeking a Principal Semiconductor Device Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will focus on the following:

  • Foundry process review for a wide range of process technologies, including leading-edge CMOS, RF/mm-wave SiGe BiCMOS, III-V HEMT/HBT, and BCD technologies
    • PDK qualifications, including qualifications of
    • Core compact SPICE models, layout effects
    • Variation models such as corner and Monte-Carlo models
    • Device noise, RF characteristics for both small and large signals
    • Self-heating, aging, and reliability checks
    • Parasitic extraction
    • Electromagnetic tools
  • Develop and implement compact SPICE models for the above process technologies; collaborate with CAD, design, and product engineers to ensure that the models meet the design requirements and are well-tailored to the specific circuit design
  • Hands-on device characterization in labs from DC, small signal to large signal
  • PCell and test chip development for both DC and RF measurements
  • Work with foundry technology team and product team to review process monitor data
  • Participate in product design review, bring-up, and debug, as well as ESD qualification
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and help them develop their skills

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of semiconductor physics and device characteristics and how they relate to compact SPICE modeling
  • Familiarity with RF/microwave theory, electromagnetics, basic digital, analog, and RF circuit design
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process flow for common semiconductor processes
  • Familiar with device characterization techniques, such as common DC and AC measurements, and be able to perform such measurements independently in lab
  • Experience in semiconductor device design or process integration is a strong plus
  • Robust data analytics and programming skills in scripting languages are a strong plus
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related + 9 years of experience, or MS + 7 years of experience, or Ph.D. + 4 years of experience

Compensation and Benefits

MaxLinear has a Total Compensation philosophy which includes base salary and annual discretionary bonus eligibility and many positions also include stock-based compensation.

 

MaxLinear expects to offer a starting base salary within the range of:  $120,300 to $190,000 Annually

The actual starting base salary will be determined by the match to certain role-related criteria such as educational degree(s) or equivalent, relevant work experience, skillset needed for the role, and geographic location; this is not an all-inclusive list as some roles may require unique skills or experience.
