Responsibilities

MaxLinear is seeking a Technical Director of Optical Systems Engineering to join our team. In this role, you will focus on the following:

 

  • Provide photonics expertise and technical leadership to a word-class engineering team developing next generation fiber optic Ethernet transceiver DSP platforms for hyperscale data center applications
  • Lead development of standards-compliant transceiver reference designs for both short reach multimode and single mode fiber optic applications
  • Provide photonics components and module knowledge into the IC design cycle to help MaxLinear design feature rich, cutting edge IC products for high-speed fiber optic data-center applications
  • Engage with the optical component technology ecosystem to test promising technologies, develop emulation platforms, and initiate early collaborations towards optimizing solutions to solve for future networking trends
  • Develop small and large signal photonic device models to enable end to end system simulation and modeling
  • Work with cross-functional leaders and teams to coordinate on business goals, organizational strategy, and project execution
  • Work with marketing and module/datacenter customers to understand customer requirements and roadmap

Qualifications

  • Solid experience leading execution of complex technical projects from concept to volume production in the data-center optics industry
  • Subject matter expertise in optical components, optical system design and characterization, optical transceiver design, high speed networking standards such as Ethernet, Infiniband, and PCIe, and PAM-4 analog and digital signal processing
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and optical MSA specifications
  • Self-motivated, effective communication skills, and ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Senior leadership, change management, and project management skills
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related + 13 years of experience, or MS + 11 years of experience, or Ph.D. + 8 years of experience

Compensation and Benefits

MaxLinear has a Total Compensation philosophy which includes base salary and annual discretionary bonus eligibility and many positions also include stock-based compensation.

 

MaxLinear expects to offer a starting base salary within the range of:  $159,200 to $247,135 Annually

The actual starting base salary will be determined by the match to certain role-related criteria such as educational degree(s) or equivalent, relevant work experience, skillset needed for the role, and geographic location; this is not an all-inclusive list as some roles may require unique skills or experience.
